Vegan MoFo: Farmers' Market Haul + CAT!

Now is the perfect time to hit up a farmers' market or stand- get the last of the summer veggies and first of the fall veggies and fruits!

Our house is flooded with produce! Once we figure things out and prepare most of it it will vacate the fridge and move to the freezer. The brand new five foot chest freezer we just bought and stuffed into the laundry room of our apartment. Yes, I insisted we buy a freezer primarily for my breast milk which I anticipate producing in vast quantities.

Neon Purple Eggplants, Strawberry Banana Jam, Cherry Jam, York Apples, Sweet Potatoes

Cabbage, Zucchini, variety of Hot Peppers

I didn't want to open the bag yet- giant thing of KALE! Yes, you're back!

Salad Mix, Mustard Greens, Garlic

Fresh Ginger! Organic seeds from Hawaii ooo la la.
We cut off the ginger part and have it freezing for now.
Licking the ginger plant.
Am I allowed to play with this?

Meal Plan + Photos

Sunday: Indian Chickpeas
Monday: Vegan Sausage
Tuesday: Tofu Nuggets
Wednesday: Potato Latkes
Thursday: Crepes
Friday: Leftovers
Saturday: Tacos heavy on the avocado

(I'm going to do a post upcoming about how we meal plan; there is a method though it may seem random!)

(Vegan) Zucchini Latkes from last week. Delicious! Hubby loved them so much he requested regular potato latkes this week. Recipe is here.
Vegans love pets/companion animals, right?

Vegan Junk Food: Dark Chocolate Dream

I am such a hypocrite. I tell you I'm not a junk foodie, but you should see what I've been eating lately. Especially now that I am on Spring Break, I have been lax about nutrition for a good week now. So far today I've eaten hummus with spinach (I guess that's alright), popcorn doused with Earth Balance, and now a chocolate bar. I haven't even had my smoothie yet, though to be fair, I'm waiting until I can't stand the heat anymore to drink it to cool off.

Yum! The Dream Company makes a variety of chocolate bars though this is the only one I've tried- many times.
  • Vegan
  • Not suitable for soy allergen
  • Processed in a facility with nuts
  • Transparent about nutrition and ingredients here
  • 1000x more delicious than a Crunch Bar
I only ate those squares...so far. Cats and chocolate don't go together apart from that I love them both.

I am normally not a big chocoholic but now I am realizing that I won't get to have any candy when I am home at Easter or probably eat any Passover desserts either so I treated myself.

Ok, sooo that picture made me want to photo shoot the "red one." Prepare for pet overload.

Vegan Pets?

I have two fur babies and one...er...scale baby?
Drake and Kitsune, 10 and 11 months old

Meander, 21 months old

I have not done a lot of research on the topic, but from everything I've read and the vets I have spoken with, cats cannot be vegan. Dogs can. From what I gather, dogs can convert plant material into taurine which is necessary to survival, but cats cannot so they must get taurine from animal sources. So, my kitties each food with poultry and fish. We do Newman's Organic.

And yeah, my snake is not vegan either. Diet consists of frozen mice.

What do you think about non-vegan pets? Has anyone raised a vegan dog? Is anyone against pet ownership at all? (This is PETA's official stance, though not all members adhere to this). If you want to know more about my pets, let me know! They were all adopted/rescued. I'm sure they will pop up here often as I have no life beyond being a pet parent.
